Lois Joan Raney

Joanie Raney passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on March 1, 1936 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to John and Dorothy Fleisch.

After graduating from Pennsbury High School in 1953, Joanie attended the Helene Fuld School of Nursing in New Jersey, graduating in 1958. Joanie worked briefly as an emergency room nurse before transitioning to industrial nursing where she dedicated the entirety of her career to ensuring the well-being of the workers at the Fairless Works steel mill in Falls Township, Pa. from 1961 to 1972 and, thereafter, General Motors plants in Ewing, N.J. and West Mifflin, Pa. until retiring to Seaside Park in 2001. On weekends, she tended to skinned knees and wiped away tears as the park nurse at Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA.

Joanie is survived by her daughter Jenny, who was the light of her life and her faithful caregiver; her nephews John Thomas (Georgine) and Christopher (Cheri) Fleisch; and great nieces Morgan, Emily, Julia, and Jenna; as well as several other cherished family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved brother John "Butch" Fleisch; his wife Peggy; and her son-in-law, David Johnson.

Joanie had many friends during her life, but her best times were spent with family, especially Butch, Peggy, Terri Raney and the Hines sisters (and their children who Joanie held dear) from Derry, Pa. Many memories were made and laughs had around a card table, at a row of slot machines, on road trips, and over Joanie's favorite food - chocolate cake. These were the makings of a life well lived. Joanie's infectious smile will be missed.

Even in death, Joanie served others by being a donor to the Humanity Gifts Registry. The family will hold a private memorial ceremony. Gifts honoring Joanie's life to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County at www.berksarl.org will be cherished.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc - West Reading is honored to serve Lois Raney's family. Condolences may be recorded at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
