Lois C. Deppen

Lois C. Deppen, 80 of Hamburg died in her residence on October 18, 2012. She was the widow of Lester G. Deppen, JR who died December 15, 2000. Lois was born in West Reading and was the daughter of the late Russell J. and Dorothy (Boughter) Levan. She was a 1950 graduate of Wilson High School and graduated from Albright College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. Lois was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Hamburg. She was employed as a Home Economics teacher in the Boyertown, Tulpehocken and Hamburg Area School Districts for a combined 30 years, retiring in 1987. She developed the Home Economics Consumer Education Curriculum in the Hamburg Area School District in the early 1970's. She was a member of the following organizations: Hamburg-Schuylkill Valley Retired Public Schools Association; Berks County Association of School Retirees; Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR); Phoebe-Berks Health Center; the Alumni Association of Albright College; and a former member of the Hamburg Planning Commission. There are no immediate survivors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany United Methodist Church, 321 Island Street, Hamburg, PA. 19526. Memorial services private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Drums, PA. The Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
