Lloyd M. Wolf Jr.

Lloyd M. Wolf Jr., 77, of Wyomissing, passed away July 6, 2017, in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia.

He was the husband of Geraldine Ann (Rutolo) Wolf to whom he was married for 49 years.

Born in Chicago, he was a son of the late Lloyd M. Sr. and Helen (Burger) Wolf.

Lloyd graduated from St. Edwards High School, Cleveland, OH in 1958 and from Wheeling Jesuit College in 1961, earning a BA in History. He spent one year at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia, where he earned a Masters degree in Latin Studies.

After leaving the seminary, Lloyd enlisted in the U.S. Army as a reservist, going to Fort Knox in 1963 for basic training.

Lloyd began his teaching and coaching career at Lansdale Catholic, where he assisted with Jimmy Lynam. In 1966 he was hired by Holy Name High School as a teacher and the coach of the boys basketball team (he was their only applicant). He became a life-long fixture at Holy Name, serving as a teacher, Athletic Director (1977 to 1989) and Director of Development until his retirement in 2005.

His 1970 team won the state championship and he had many, many successful teams throughout his tenure as the boys basketball coach at Holy Name. Lloyd retired from coaching in 2007 after 41 years as head coach, at which time he developed a love for golf.

He was president of the Suburban Catholic League and the Berks County Interscholastic Association. He enjoyed volunteering at the Holy Name Extravaganza and the school's annual golf tournament. Lloyd was inducted into both the Holy Name and Berks Catholic Sports Hall of Fame. He is also the only male to be inducted into the Berks County Field Hockey Hall of Fame.

Lloyd was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

He loved family, Holy Name, basketball, and friends.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his two children: Nina Louise, wife of Tony M. Balistrere, Sinking Spring; and Dr. Lloyd M. III, husband of Dr. Kimberly Wolf, Birdsboro; one sister, Margaret Mary Wolf, Shillington; and five granddaughters: Natalie, Nicole, Sidney, Abigail, and Lily.
