Lewis P. Runkle, 81, passed away August 21, 2014 in his Reading residence.

He was the husband of Mary Ann (Zaffiro) Runkle.

Born October 29, 1932 in Reading, he was a son of the late Charles L. and Martha E. (Parvin) Runkle.

He was a 1950 graduate of West Reading High School.

Lewis worked in radio from 1955 to 1998; first with Marty Miller at WRAW for 3 years and then for WEEU, with Jack Gounder, as a news director, and an announcer of music shows. He also announced for the Reading Buccaneers at concerts.

He was also an exceptional artist, and entered many art shows over the years.

Lewis was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his four children: Charles S. Runkle, Royersford; Craig M. Runkle, Shillington; Linda L., wife of Steve Pelker, Reading; and Lisa A., wife of Dale Leader, Jr., Reading. Also surviving are his brother, William P. Runkle, Reading; and his five grandchildren: Austin Runkle, Erin Pelker, Bryan Keller, Cameron Runkle, and Lauren Runkle.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A viewing will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
