Lewis W. Olszewski, 86, of Ontelaunee Township, passed away on September 20, 2023 at Penn State Health Saint Josephs Medical Center.
Born in Reading, he was the son of Louis S. and Ethel (Young) Olszewski. Lewis was the loving husband to Barbara J. (Stamm) for 65 years.
Following his graduation from Reading High School, Lewis proudly served in the Army National Guard for 42 years. His commitment to serving others continued as he pursued a career in law enforcement as a police officer for Ontelaunee, Centre and Tilden Townships and then Northern Berks Police Department. He thoroughly enjoyed police work and kept his local businesses and residents safe and secure. He was also a warehouse manager for Singer until his retirement.
Lewis had a passion for fly fishing and loved devouring a good meal. He easily connected to others and would talk to everyone he met. He kept spectators safe by working security at Schuylkill Valley High School football games and wrestling matches. Lewis also enjoyed going to demolition derbies.
In addition to his spouse, Lewis is survived by his sons, Russell J. Olszewski, husband of Kimberly (Smith) and Louis S. Olszewski, husband of Loretta (Moyer). He leaves behind five grandchildren: Katrina, Samuel, Timothy, Louis Jr., and Kyle. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren: Lucas, Atalaya, and Hazely.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 beginning with a visitation at 10:00AM, followed by a time of sharing at 10:30AM at Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 5153 Kutztown Road Temple, PA 19560. Burial will follow at Berks County Memorial Gardens.
