Lester Vernon Meck, 90, of Reading, went home to the Lord on March 7, 2008 in the Reading Hospital.
He was the husband of Thelma Elizabeth (Englehart) Meck, whom he married October 12, 1940.
Born in Reading, PA on February 3, 1918, he was a son of the late George A. and Mary (Hoffmaster) Meck.
He was a member of St. James Church, West Reading.
He loved to sing and for several years was involved with "A Joyful Noise", a chorus group from Trinity United Church of Christ.
Lester was a co-founder of Limerick Garden of Memories and the Berks County Association for the Hearing Impaired, where he also served as president.
He was also a past president of the West Reading/Wyomissing Rotary Club and a past president of Antietam Valley Lions Club.
Lester was a manager of the Hummingbird Hill Condominiums from 1981 - 1999.
He is also survived by a daughter, Beverly A., wife of Raymond M. Groff, Jr., of Exeter Township.
Other survivors include a sister, Myrtle Meck of Reading and two grandsons; Peter A., husband of Meredith F. (Angus) Groff of West Reading and Christopher T. Groff of West Chester.
Two great granddaughters also survive him; Bryanna L. Groff and Rebekah L. Groff.
Lester is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister and four brothers.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township. Contributions may be made to St. James Church, 7th and Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611.
