Lester R. Gery

Lester Raymond Gery, 87, of Sandy Bank Road, Media, Delaware County, formerly of Reading and Silver Spring, Md., died March 24 in Crozer Chester Medical Center.

He was the husband of Rita (Boland) Gery.

Born in East Greenville, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late John R. and Mary Ann (Carl) Gery.

Gery was employed for 50 years as an insurance underwriter by American Casualty Co. and Commercial Union, Baltimore, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Silver Spring.

Gery was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He was a 1938 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster.

Gery is also survived by four daughters: Ann-Marie G. (Gery) Friel, Lititz, Lancaster County; Margaret (Gery) Hancock, Media; Leslie R. (Gery) McCann, Wilmington, Del.; and Elizabeth H. Gery, New York City.

Other survivors include four grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Gery, in 2002.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church. Burial will be private. Francis J. Collins Funeral Home Inc., Silver Spring, is in charge of arrangements.
