Leroy W. Withers

LeRoy Wallace Withers, 90,of Laureldale, died May 25, 2011 in the Reading Hospital.

He was married July 13, 1944 to Mildred Grace (Morello) Withers, who died October 12, 1998.

Born in Reading, PA on April 26, 1921, he was a son of the late Arthur and Frances May (Petroich) Withers.

LeRoy was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale, where he served on the building committee in 1957.

He was a 1939 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

LeRoy was employed 30 years as the superintendent of building and grounds for Albright College, retiring in 1986.

He was a former volunteer with the Cub Scouts, Pack #124.

LeRoy was the building inspector and zoning officer for 48 years with the Borough of Laureldale, retiring December 12, 1994.

He was a United States Merchant Marine.

He is survived by a son, Terry L., husband of Gale D. (Haas) Withers of Oley.

Other survivors include two sisters: Frances (Withers), widow of Russell Mellinger of Wernersville and Gloria (Withers), wife of General Russell Ogan of Lake Suzy, Florida.

There is also one granddaughter; Jennifer Lynn Withers of Laureldale.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with the Rev. Thomas F. Irwin Jr., officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
