Leroy D. Hill

LeRoy D. Hill, 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Margaret A. (Myers) Hill, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.

Born in Gouglersville, he was the son of the late Ernest W. and Bertha E. (Wengert) Hill. After graduating Shillington High School (Class of 1950), LeRoy attended Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute (Class of 1952) where he finished his apprenticeship program in 1954 as a Journeyman Draftsman, later to become a Penn State Alumnus. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1955-1957 before starting a career as a mechanical engineer. LeRoy was employed for 45 years in the engineering departments of Textile Machine Works, Western Electric, Rockwell International and Magnatech International. He retired from Rockwell as a project engineer in 1995 and Magnatech as a Quality Control Engineer in 2005. During his career, he was awarded several United States patents for Knitting Machine inventions.

LeRoy loved sports cars and world travel. He acquired a desire for recreational travel from his U.S. Navy experience and his European engineering assignments. LeRoy and Margaret traveled extensively throughout Europe, Canada, Mexico and the US.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Monica L. Hill and Cynthia A. Murray; grandchildren, Emily M. Murray and Andrew F. Murray; sister, Betty Hunter; and brother, Kenneth Hill.

LeRoy's family wishes to thank the staff of Country Meadows, where he was residing, for their care and compassion throughout his time there.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. 739 Penn Ave. West Reading, PA 19611. Friends and relatives are invited to gather at the funeral home from 10:30 am until the time of service.
