Leonard Fox

Leonard A. Fox, 87, died Thursday, January 24, 2013, in the Lutheran Home at Topton.

Born in Womelsdorf, he was the son of Abraham H. and Jennie C. (Berringer) Fox.

He attended Wilson High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He served in the Pacific. He graduated from Albright College in 1968.

For 11 years, he was employed as store superintendent for C.K.Whitner's department store in Reading. He also worked part-time in real estate for Wellington Printz. Before retiring in 1992, he was a substitute teacher at Oley Vo-Tech.

On April 3, 1947, he married Shirley J. Machemer. They have a daughter, Lisbeth, wife of Gary Shugar, Reading. Leonard has two grandchildren, Daniel Shugar, husband of Amanda, Reading, and Rebecca Hughes, wife of Adam, Elverson.

His surviving siblings are Marie Griffin, wife of William, and James Fox, husband of Margaret.

He was predeceased by siblings Idella Fox Withers, William Fox, Gladys Fox, and Jane Fox Myers.

Leonard was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Oley, and American Legion Post 878.

He was a woodworker and enjoyed gardening vegetables and watching local birds.

Burial was private at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2 at 2:00 p.m. in Friedens United Church of Christ, 337 Main St., Oley, PA 19547. There will be a visitation with the family at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friedens UCC. Blankenbiller Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
