Leon A. Miller, 85, a resident of the Highlands at Wyomissing, died Aug. 21, 2017, in the Highlands. Born March 7, 1932, he was a son of the late Arthur C. and Luella (Grimes) Miller. He was predeceased by his brother, LaVerne G. Miller, on Sept. 16, 2009.
On July 20, 1952, he married Marian I. "Paddy" (Adams) Miller at Nativity Lutheran Church, Reading. She survives him.
Miller graduated in 1950 from Reading High School, where he was the senior class president and a varsity basketball player. In 1954, he was graduated from Lafayette College, Easton, Northampton County, where he was a varsity basketball player and in 1957, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Philadelphia.
Upon graduation from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Miller became an associate in the office of Attorney James W. Bertolet. When Bertolet took a seat on the Berks County Court of Common Pleas in January 1964, Miller, with Richard T. Williamson and James H. Murray, formed the law firm of Williamson, Miller and Murray, later known as Miller and Murray. Miller retired from the practice of law in 1994.
Miller was very proud of his four children and their accomplishments. He is survived by his daughter, Karen L. Miller, wife of Bruce R. Posten, Spring Township; son Kurt A. Miller, husband of Elizabeth (Taucher) Miller, Mount Lebanon, Allegheny County; daughter, Kristie Miller McMahon, wife of Patrick J. McMahon, Clarks Summit, Lackawanna County; and son Kyle L. Miller, husband of Laura (Fleming) Miller, Greenwich, Conn.
Miller was happy to see that his nine grandchildren are on the road to success in their lives. They are Tyler Miller Posten, husband of Amanda (Petrino) Posten; Ian Patrick McMahon; Adam Miller McMahon; Emily Elizabeth Miller; Benjamin Taucher Miller; Alexandra Elizabeth Miller; Anna Elizabeth Miller; Kathleen Marian McMahon; and Caroline Susanna Miller.
He also was survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert D. and Dyanne L. (Kunsman) Adams, Colony Park, two nieces and a nephew.
Miller always believed that a good education coupled with great motivation will lead to success in life. As a result of this belief, Miller and his family set up a perpetual scholarship fund, the Leon A. and Marian I. Miller Family Scholarship Fund, that provides financial aid each year for one student from Berks County, attending Lafayette College.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leon A. and Marian I.
