Leon W. "Scrappy" Hoffman, 88, died February 7, 2011 in his Spring Township residence.
He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Ney) Hoffman.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Jerome and Esta S. (Meck) Hoffman.
Leon was a graduate of Robesonia High School and earned his Electrical Engineering degree from Penn State.
He worked for 32 years for Met-Ed in the meter department, retiring in 1988.
Leon was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, serving in WWII. He flew 32 missions with the 401st. Bomb Group while stationed in Europe.
He was an avid golfer and a member of the Masonic Lodge 435, where he was a custodian for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Esther S., widow of Charles R. Honn, Spring Township. Also surviving are 8 nieces, 3 nephews, 6 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews.
Leon was predeceased by his three brothers: Robert J.S., Norman J. and Paul C.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A viewing will be one hour prior to the services in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Ave., Reading, PA 19605.
