Leo W. Lackey, 88 of The Highlands, Wyomissing died December 8 at 7:15 a.m. in The Highlands Skilled Nursing Unit where he had been since November 9.

His first wife Elsie I. (Kutz) Lackey died July 5, 1997. He is survived by his second wife Dorothy (Holden) Pendlebury Lackey.

Born in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, he was the son of the late Leo W. Lackey and Estelle C. (Malick) Lackey.

Lackey was first employed by the United States Postal Department for 22 years in Harrisburg. He was later a Stewardship Officer from 1958 to 1973 for the Lutheran Church in America, in New York City. Lastly, he was employed as a Director for the Lutheran Church in America from 1973 until his retirement in 1983 in their Lutheran Laymens Movement, also in New York City.

Lackey was an accomplished water colorist.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the European Theatre.

He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing.

In addition to his second wife he is also survived by one step-son, William D. Pendlebury, and one step-daughter, Doris A. (Pendlebury) Grassi, both of Glen Moore Chester County. Other survivors include 8 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in The Highlands Auditorium. Burial will be private in the Rose Garden of St. John Lutheran Church, Summit, NJ. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Leo, contributions may be made to The Highlands Endowment Fund 2000 Cambridge Avenue Wyomissing, PA 19610 or to Atonement Lutheran Church 5 Wyomissing Boulevard Wyomissing, PA 19610. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
