Lee M. Miller (nee Struminski), 80, of Leesport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family and long-term caregivers.
She was born in Chicago, IL, to the late Benjamin and Leocadia (Chludzinski) Struminski. The Struminskis, Brooklyn natives, had temporarily relocated to Chicago while Benjamin worked on the Manhattan Project.
After graduating from the University of Illinois at the age of 20, Lee enrolled at Columbia Business School where she earned an MBA. She landed a job at IBM as a Systems Engineer, and in 1969, Lee was named Systems Engineer of the Year. She thrived at IBM and loved her career, but gladly gave it up to start a family.
Following her marriage to Howard Miller, Lee devoted herself to raising their three children and assisting Howard in running Rainbow Industrial Products. In 1993 they relocated their family from Long Island to the Reading area.
A lifelong equestrian, Lee began riding as a child at her family's summer home. This childhood passion developed into a life-long dream, one she was able to realize following the move to Leesport when she began breeding horses. She produced several top-quality hunter/jumpers, some reaching the Grand-Prix level.
In addition to her horses, she loved dogs and many other animals. Lee's other pursuits included gardening, travel, and, later in life, playing social and Duplicate Bridge.
Left to treasure Lee's memory are her children: Roger B. Miller, husband of Lori, of New York City, NY; Glenn B. Miller, husband of Katie, of Charlottesville, VA; and Emily A. Miller of Leesport; grandchildren, Zoe, Noah, Jacob, and Tyler; and her niece, Tara Kennedy, and her son, Michael Kennedy. Lee is also survived by her beloved dog, Joey.
In addition to her parents, Benjamin and Leocadia, Lee was predeceased by her sister, Lynne Kennedy, and by her former husband, Howard Miller.
Contributions in Lee's memory may be offered to Alzheimer's Association, https://www.alz.org/, or to any non-kill animal shelter of one's choice.
Committal Services for Lee will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the historic Green-Wood Cemetery, 25th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
