Lawrence Edwin "Larry" Reber, 62, passed away on the 6th of April, 2014 in his Kenhorst home after a long fight with liver cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. This was Larry's second battle with cancer having beaten the improbable odds in 1992 with pancreatic cancer.
He was the husband of Karen Faye (Fritz) Reber, whom he married almost 40 years ago on November 23, 1974.
Born June 13, 1951 in Reading, he was the son of the late Lawrence Vincent and Helen Frances (Yaklich) Reber.
He was a graduate of Reading High School, Class of 1969.
For 30 years, Larry worked at Reber's Amoco Station on 5th Street Highway. He started full-time at the age of sixteen with his father and would later continue the business as owner and operator. In 2013, he retired from Yeager Plumbing and Supply, Inc.
Nature and wildlife were his passions. Above most things in life, Larry loved to be outdoors and he spent plenty of time at his cabin in "God's Country," Potter County, PA. He was an accomplished hunter, who annually supplied his family with venison; and an avid fisherman, who rarely missed trout season. In his younger years, Larry was a highly skilled and decorated outboard motor boat racer winning the 1980 National Championship and the 1978 National Marathon Championship. He enjoyed taking his Harley Davidson motorcycle for long rides, cheering on his Philadelphia Phillies, and shooting around on the golf course. Larry was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the 14th Ward Social Club, the Mohnton Rod and Gun Club, the Kenhorst Fire Company, and was a proud 20-year Golden Eagle member of the National Rifle Association. He loved spending time with his family and was a loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. Larry had an endearing and sarcastic wit and anyone was a potential target. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Toni L. Reber, Portsmouth, VA; Lauren B. Reber, Denver, PA; and Jeffrey L., husband of Johanna Reber, Woodbridge, VA. Also surviving are his sisters: Carolyn Freeman, Temple, PA; and Eileen R., wife of Todd Himmelberger, Mohrsville, PA; and his two grandchildren: Hailey Faye and Charleston Lawrence Reber.
Services will be Friday at 7 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wildlife for Everyone Endowment Foundation at www.wildlifeforeveryone.org. Larry would be happy to know you took part in preserving and improving wildlife for all present and future Pennsylvania generations. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
