Lawrence M. Ocepek

Lawrence Michael Ocepek

Born on July 6, 1920 to Jerry and Theresa Ocepek in LaSalle, Illinois, Lawrence Michael Ocepek entered into Eternal Life on March 7, 2009 in Reading, Pennsylvania at the age of 88.

Preceded in death by his devoted wife of 58 years Bettie Louise Kendall Ocepek, his parents and his nine siblings Steven, Frank, Fred, Joseph, Jerry, Mary, Christine, Rose, and Ann.

Larry spent his childhood in LaSalle until he joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) during the Great Depression.

He then served his country in the Coast Guard for 6 years during the Second World War, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and travelling throughout much of the world.

Larry and Bettie married in 1945 and soon thereafter settled in Phoenix, Arizona where they established "Larry's Plumbing and Heating" a small business which prospered based entirely upon industry and integrity until 1985 when they retired.

Larry is survived by his cherished children David B. Ocepek and Deborah J. Smart, his adored grandchildren Michael Stoner and Amy (Christopher) Cheaney, Nicholas and Christopher Ocepek and two great-grandchildren Simon and Avery, sisters-in-law Betty (Earl) Kendall and Betty (Joseph) Ocepek and many nieces and nephews.

Larry loved his work; he ran when others walked, walked when others sat, and sat ever so briefly and just long enough to plan where his boundless energy and enthusiasm would take him next. A remarkable man, he will be dearly missed by those who knew him and especially by those he loved so clearly.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 PM, Friday March 13 Hansen Chapel 8314 N. 7th St. Phoenix, Arizona, 85020. Graveside Service for family and friends will be held at 11 AM Saturday March 14 at Greenwood Memorial Lawn cemetery (NW corner) 719 N. 27th Ave, Phoenix, Arizona 85009.

In keeping with his lifelong commitment to philanthropy, memorial contributions in Larry's name to a charity of one's choice are suggested.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. For online condolences, visit www.kuhnfuneralhome.com
