Lawrence G. "Larry" Mitchell
Lawrence G. Mitchell, 88, of Sinking Spring, PA crossed over into eternal life on Dec. 5th,2017.
Born in Hazleton, PA, he was the son of George and Helen (Holodick) Mitchell and later,his stepmother Agnes Mitchell.
He was the loving husband of Johanna (Makowiec) Mitchell for 61 years.
Larry grew up in the coal region and attended Mining and Mechanical Institute (MMI) in Freeland, PA. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Atlas Chemical Co. in South Tamaqua during the 60's and later for ICI Americas in Valley Forge as an Aerospace Engineer.
Dad had an analytical mind and could fix anything. He'd never forget your name and loved golf, baseball, a good marching band and was a loyal Nittany Lions football fan. His family was his pride and joy. He was a selfless provider, always putting his family first. Dad never missed a ball game, recital or ceremony of any kind. He was a devout Catholic and wonderful role model, instilling in us love, kindness, integrity and faith.
Larry is survived by three sons, Lawrence and wife Lorie of Nazareth, David of West Lawn, Scott and wife Fran of Roswell, GA, daughtersMary Adams and husband Chip of Sinking Spring, and Paula Fischer of Sinking Spring. He is also survived by a sister, Evelyn (Mitchell) Zeigler of Clearwater, FL. He was beloved "Grand Pop" to ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Dec. 22nd, 1:00pm at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2810 St. Albans Dr. Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Calling hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Friday at the church prior to Mass, followed by interment at Gethsemane Mausoleum.
