Sister La Verne Grippe, OSF

Sister La Verne Grippe (Grzyb), 89, of the Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, died on Saturday afternoon, February 22, 2025, at St. Joseph Villa, Reading, PA, where she had resided since 2017.

Born in Pottsville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Mary C. (Perkolop) Grippe (Grzyb).

Sister La Verne entered the Bernardine Sisters on August 11, 1953, and was in her 72nd year of religious life. Sister earned a BA degree in Education from College Misericordia and an MA in History from St. Louis University. She served her ministry in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Texas as an elementary, junior high, and high school teacher, principal, superior, provincial councilor, caregiver and local minister.

Sister is survived by her sister Theresa Allen, Mountain City, TX.

Viewing on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 2:00 pm. at St. Joseph Villa, Reading, PA. Mass on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Villa Chapel, Reading, PA followed by burial in the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters' Cemetery, Mount Alvernia, Reading, PA.
