Laurence A. Citro

Laurence Anthony Citro, M.D., 66, of North Heidelberg Township, died February 24, 2010 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township, where he had been since February 19th.

He was the husband of Lisa Anne (Wenrich) Citro, whom he married June 29, 2002.

Born in Utica, New York on November 21, 1943, he was the son of the late Anthony and Gladys (Dragon) Citro.

Laurence was a 1961 graduate of Whitesboro High School in Utica, NY. He received a B.S. in Psychology in 1965 and a MD in 1969 from SUNY - Buffalo. He completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 where he spent time teaching medical students prior to serving as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Griffith Air Force Base in Rome, NY from 1974 – 1976. He then returned to University of Pennsylvania Hospital to teach, prior to moving to the Reading area in 1978.

Dr. Citro passionately cared for patients in the community for twenty years as a radiologist with Community General Hospital, Reading and later in the same capacity with St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township, before retiring in 2004.

During his retirement he pursued his passions of astronomy, photography, music, painting, and teaching. Laurence was a member of the Berks County Medical Society and Berks County Amateur Astronomical Society.

He was also a member of First United Church of Christ, Reading.

Laurence is survived by two sons: James L., husband of Jane-Linn (Vincent) Citro of Haddonfield, New Jersey and Jeffrey H., husband of Kimberly (Clark) Citro of Santa Barbara, California.

Other survivors include a grandson, Kyle Vincent Citro of Haddonfield, New Jersey.

Services will be Saturday, February 27th at 2:00 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, with the Rev. Mark D. Dewald officiating. A viewing will be held Saturday from 12 noon until time of services in the funeral home.
