Larry W. Brendle, 67, Whitford Hills, Muhlenberg Township, died Dec. 7, 2007, at 3:40 a.m. in Berks Heim, Bern Township, where he had resided since Jan. 10, 2001. He was the husband of Joyce L. (Fischer) Brendle, whom he married Jan. 6, 1962.
Born Oct. 16, 1940, in West Reading, he was a son of Winfield S. Brendle, Gouglersville, and the late Evelyn (Rapp) Brendle.
A 1958 graduate of Gov. Mifflin High School, he took various courses at RACC. He also attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Glynco, Ga., as well as the MSHA Academy in Beckley, W.Va.
Brendle worked for the former Grace Mines, Morgantown, from 1960 until it closed in 1978. He then worked for the Department of Labor, MSHA Division in New Jersey and Wyomissing for a total of 22 years. He was also a special investigator of the MSHA.
Brendle was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Muhlenberg Township, where he served as a lector and was a past member of the School Advisory Board.
He was a past member of the Lion's Club, Lincoln Park Fire Company and Gouglersville Fire Company, as well as an assistant Boy Scout leader in the Mohnton area.
Surviving are two daughters, Sabrina K. (Brendle), wife of Timothy Stutzman, Hyde Park; and Melanie J. Brendle, at home.
Other survivors include three brothers: Rodney D., husband of Leona J. Brendle, Fredericksburg; Randy S., husband of Josie Brendle, Benten; and Lonnie T., husband of Bette Brendle, Gouglersville.
There are also two grandchildren, Cade Stutzman and Kyla Stutzman.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Laurieanne J. Brendle, in 1988; and a sister, Cynthia S. (Brendle), wife of Garry L. Frees, Denver, Pa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township, with Monsignor Dennis T. Hartgen officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. There will be a viewing Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.
