Larry E. Miles

Larry E. Miles, 78, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Reading Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Catherine (Houlihan) Miles, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage marked by devotion, laughter, and family.

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Larry was the son of the late James and Marjorie (High) Miles and brother of the late Debra Shimko. A proud 1965 graduate of Wilson High School where he was a three sport athlete who earned eight varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball, Larry went on to graduate from Muhlenberg College, where he played four years of baseball as a catcher, a position that perfectly reflected his toughness, leadership, and dependability. Before college, he was a member of the legendary West Lawn Owls state championship baseball team, beginning a lifelong love of the game.

Larry built a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant, serving clients and the community with integrity and professionalism for 57 years. He began his career at Ernst & Ernst and eventually started his own successful accounting firm. Beyond his work as an accountant, he was deeply committed to civic and community service. Larry generously volunteered his time with numerous organizations and served on several local boards, including AAA and the Boy Scouts, always believing in giving back to the community that meant so much to him.

Outside of work, Larry loved spending time on the golf course and proudly recorded two hole-in-ones during his golfing years. He was also a lifelong and passionate fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and Penn State Nittany Lions football, rarely missing a game and always cheering on his teams with enthusiasm (this year in particular he was quite thrilled with the Eagles First Round Draft Pick). More than any accomplishment, however, Larry was most proud of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose quiet strength, loyalty, humor, and steady guidance shaped the lives of those around him.

In addition to his wife, Catherine, Larry is survived by his children: Kelly Curtis (Tony) of Richmond, Virginia; Jeffrey Miles (Jacqueline), serving in New Delhi, India; and Jennifer Miles (Karen), residing in London, England; and his beloved grandchildren: Caroline, Madelyn, Claire, Alexandra, Henry, Noah, Houlihan Huntston, Finnley and many nieces and nephews.
