Lambros G. Sotos, 79, of West Lawn, died peacefully December 7, 2014 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the devoted husband of Antigone (Giannatselis) Sotos. They were married July 2, 1962 and celebrated 52 years of marriage. Born October 18, 1935 in Vlahokerasia, Greece, he was a son of the late George and Eleni (Zeppos) Sotos.
Lambros left his ancestral home at age ten, to learn the trade of manufacturing
hand-made leather goods in Athens, Greece. He served in the Greek military from 1953 to 1955. In 1962 he immigrated to Canada and in 1963 to the United States, where he was employed by Letisse, Inc., maker of fine leather handbags, from 1963 to 1986 as a foreman. He was employed part-time at The Crystal Restaurant, Ye Olde Spring House, and The Riveredge as a bartender. From 1987 to his retirement in 2000, he was employed by the Reading School District where he manufactured and installed the District's window shades.
He was extremely proud of his Greek heritage and of Hellenic culture, and was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading, and a former member of St. Matthew's Greek Orthodox Church, Reading.
His life centered on his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an exceptionally generous man and master of many trades. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: George L., Schwenksville; Fani L. wife of James M. Polyak, Wyomissing; and Eleni L., Berkeley, California. There are five grandchildren: Samantha, Evan, Nicholas, Alexia and Ajay. Lambros is also survived by a sister, Stavroula (Perdiki), Sparta, Greece. He was predeceased by three brothers: Christos; Stavros; and Panagiotis, and two sisters: Dena (Dalmira); and Panagiota (Karageorgiou).
Services will be Thursday, December 11, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Sts. Constantine and Helen Church, 1001 East Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, Rev. Father Thomas Pappalas, Proistamenos, presiding. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Church at the above address.
