Kyle David Pagerly, 28, was killed in the line of duty, June 29, 2011 in Albany Township.

He was the husband of Alecia Anne (Bird), whom he married December 12, 2007.

Born in Reading, he was a son of David J., husband of Lisa M. (Brumbach) Pagerly, West Lawn and Michelle D. (Dietrich), wife of Paul B. Moyer, Mohrsville.

Kyle was a 2001 graduate of Wilson High School. Following high school he pursued a career in law enforcement and graduated from Reading Police Academy, Federal Prison Academy and Philadelphia Canine Academy.

He was a Canine Deputy Sheriff with the Berks County Sheriff's Department since 2006. He also worked part-time with the Western Berks Regional Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Task Force and was a lieutenant for the Spring Township Fire Department.

Kyle loved to be outdoors, hiking and enjoying nature. He also loved working out and running. He ran a marathon in 2010, completed numerous triathlons and was training for an Ironman Triathlon later this year. He was a U.S. Army, Military Police, veteran, serving in Kosovo and Iraq.

Kyle died a hero. He gave the gift of life, through his death, by donating his organs and tissues so others can live. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife and parents, he will be survived by his child, due in January. Also surviving are his brother, Brian M., husband of Callie Pagerly, Grovetown, GA, his step-sister, Brianna M. Clark, West Lawn; his paternal grandfather, Thomas, husband of Doris Pagerly, Ephrata; maternal grandfather, Donald A. Dietrich, Wernersville and his nephews, Austin C. Pagerly, Aiden A. Peppers and his niece, Ella E. Peppers. His canine partner, Jynx, also survives him.

Kyle was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Vilma (Bassi) Pagerly and his maternal grandmother, MaryLou Dietrich.

A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Sovereign Center, 700 Penn St., Reading. A visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Center. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kyle Pagerly Memorial Fund, Attn: Sheriff's Dept, 633 Court St., Reading, PA 19601.
