Klara Margarete (Eisele) Smith, 91, formerly of Bernville, died May 25, 2007 at 5:25 am in Phoebe Berks Village.
She was married April 16, 1941 to E. George Smith, who died December 7, 2001.
Born March 9, 1916 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Anna (Brenner) Eisele.
She was a 1934 graduate of Wilson High School, where she played the bass violin in the school orchestra, played center on a championship varsity basketball team and participated in the school paper, year book and the track team.
Klara was also a 1935 graduate of the McCann School of Business.
She was a member of the Beta Tau Chapter of Alpha Iota Sorority, where she had served as the Reading Alumni Chapter President.
Klara was a member of Spring Valley Church of God, Muhlenberg Township and a member of Glory to God Ministry, Palm Springs, California.
She loved to Golf, Travel and participate in any social activity.
Klara was employed as a salesperson for a number of years with the Kuztown Rug Company.
She and her husband later co-owned the following companies; Reading Hosiery Outlets, Feel Fine Shops, Inc., E.G. Smith, Inc., Boyertown Oil Company, Inc., and Terre Hill Concrete Products, Inc.
Klara and her husband also co-founded the Klara M. and E. George Smith Foundation where she served as President.
She is survived by two children; Edwin G. husband of Helene K. (Askin) Smith of Spring Township and Janis L. (Smith) wife of Barry L. Weller of Wyomissing.
Other survivors include five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother, Karl H. husband of Jean Eisele of Wyomissing, two nephews and one niece.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 2nd at 2:00 pm in Spring Valley Church of God, 2727 Old Pricetown Road, Temple, PA 19560 with the Rev. Robert E. Hinson officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services in the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
