Kenneth E. Templin

Kenneth E. Templin, a retired Reading police sergeant detective, died Dec. 28 at 11:39 p.m. in his residence in Shillington.

Templin, 70, was the husband of Shirley A. (Moyer) Templin.

He served on the Reading Police Department from 1964 until 1990 as a sergeant detective and crime prevention and traffic and community relations officer.

In 1970, Templin was named "Police Officer of the Year" by the Exchange Club of Reading. That same year, he received a certificate of commendation by Mayor Victor R. H. Yarnell for assisting another policeman.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Harry and Mary (Bailey) Templin.

Templin was last employed for eight years by the Wyomissing School District as liasion and disciplinary supervisor in the junior-senior high school, retiring in 1996.

He was a graduate of Reading High School and the Reading Police Academy.

Templin was an Army veteran.

He was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Congregational Church, Shillington.

Templin was named "Friend of Education" by the Berks County Coordinating Council in 1979.

He was a past director of the Children's Home of Reading, Police Athletic Board, Advances, Visiting Nurses Association of Berks County, Young Republican Club of Berks County, Wyomissing; Reading Municipal Employees Credit Union and the Berks County Chapter of Credit Unions.

He is also survived by two daughters, Lori A. (Templin) Heck, Wernersville, and Lisa M. Templin-Blimline, Shillington.

Other survivors include four grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township.
