It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth James Nei, who died peacefully at home in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania on November 12, 2024. He was 91.
Kenneth was born on May 22, 1933, in Hazen, North Dakota. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Montana State University and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from New York University. He worked for AT&T Bell Telephone Laboratories, Western Electric Company, and Lucent Technologies for 38 years. Following retirement, he continued to be active in his profession and consulted in private industry for several years.
Kenneth was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Teresa (Szydlowski); daughter, Michelle (and husband Sergio Carbone) of Collegeville, Pennsylvania; son, Michael (and wife Elise) of Chesterfield, New Jersey; and three cherished grandchildren: Christopher (and fiancée Brooke), Patrick, and Emma. Kenneth is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Wolff of Missoula, Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rose Nei, and his brothers, Ormie and Landon.
Kenneth loved spending time with family and friends. This included many weekend cookouts and adventures with his children and grandchildren in Florida, Montana, Alaska and Bermuda. He also enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and racing J/24 sailboats. In his youth, he liked to go trout fishing and big game hunting with his siblings in Montana. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, classic music, and cooking complicated recipes. Ken was an avid reader of non-fiction and the Sunday New York Times, and he was famous for his apple pie.
Kenneth was generous, adventurous, kind, and loving and he will be forever missed.
