Kenneth A. Hess

Kenneth A. Hess, 62, passed away peacefully at his home 1042 Rick Road, Reading on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Kathy J. (Bower) Hess for 42 years having married on May 18, 1974.

Ken was born in Reading Hospital, West Reading on November 10, 1954 and was a 1972 graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School, Leesport. He was the son of Edward D. & Barbara A. (Stumb) Hess.

Before retiring, he worked 18 years at Carpenter Technology and 10 years at Tiger Drylac when they were housed in Muhlenberg Township. He also worked as a mechanical assembly contractor for Automation Design Engineering, New Holland, a job he treasured because he worked along side his son, Matthew.

Many of his days were spent fishing, flea marketing, traveling, target shooting, going to races, boating, motorcycling and being "Mr. Fix-It". He always looked forward to spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends. His amiable personality enabled him to connect easily with people sharing personal experiences, stories and reminiscing. His dedication and helpfulness to his family and friends will always be remembered and greatly appreciated. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife, Ken is survived by his children, Matthew B. Hess and wife Mandy A. (Reber), Lisa N. (Hess) Fabian and husband Jose F. Fabian, and Mary Ann E. Hess; his grandsons, Matthew Hess and Elias Fabian; his granddaughters, Makayla Hess, Madison Hess and Amarah Fabian. A sister and two brothers also survive him.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 2017, at 12 p.m. in the Kuhn Funeral Home and Crematory Inc, 5153 Kutztown Road, Temple, PA 19560. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m.-12p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens.
