Kenneth C. Heckman

Kenneth C. "Gabby" Heckman, 76 of Hamburg died April 1, 2015 in the home of his daughter Mary Therese Grob. He was the husband of Mary C. (Brennan) Heckman. Gabby was born in Hamburg and was the son of the late Leroy S. and Viola S. (Sumner) Heckman. He was a 1956 graduate of Hamburg High School. Kenneth was peacetime US Navy veteran. Gabby was employed as a dockworker for Berks-Welding as tank filler for many years retiring in 2000. He last worked for Perry Golf Course as a club- house attendant for 13 years. Kenneth was an active member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Hamburg and it's Holy Name Society. He was a lifetime member of the Keystone Social Club and Hamburg Sports Boosters. He and several other Hamburg residents were instrumental in getting lights on the Hamburg Football Field. Gabby was a member of the Hamburg Area School Board for many years, and devoted much of his time to coaching young men's sports in the Hamburg Area. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Timothy husband of Bernadette Heckman, Athens, Georgia, two daughters, Mary Therese wife of Patrick Grob and Tamara wife of Sumner Bossler, Rockville, MD. and grandchildren Adam and Shea Heckman, and Lena Bossler. A brother, Gary husband of Yvonne Heckman, Mountain-Top, California, also survives him. Two sisters, Fern M. Bryan and Leona E. Roeder and three brothers, Leroy A. "Liz" Heckman, Sylvester A. "Cracker" Heckman and Glenn D. "Blackie" Heckman, predeceased Kenneth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary R.C. Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg. A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. 40 S. 4th St. Hamburg and again on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Hamburg. Online condolences may be expressed at www.burkeydriscoll.com.
