Kathleen L. Richter, 85, Topton, formerly of Fliying Hills, died July 3 at 8:23 p.m. in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she had resided since Feb. 24.
Her husband, Carl J. Richter, died Feb. 12, 1991.
Born May 8, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Elizabeth (Wellwood) Long.
Richter was employed for 27 years as a secretary for Jules Dierckx Corp., Queens, NY, before retiring in 1983.
She had attended the Girls Commercial High School, Brooklyn.
She was a member of Robeson Lutheran Church, Plowville.
She was president of the altar guild and secretary of Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd, Brooklyn, where she had served on the church council.
Richter was named person of the week in 2001 by Reading Eagle Company for her volunteer service at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center.
She had knitted and crocheted hundreds of blankets for Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore.
Surviving ar a son, the Rev. John C. Richter, husband of Patricia J. Richter, sinking Spring.
Other survivors include a sister Dolores (Long) Thulstrup, Brooklyn.
There is also a niece, Elizabeth (Dalhaus) Cammarosano; and three granddaughters, Kirsten B. Richter, Meredith H. Richter and Courtney F. Richter.
A viewing will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to noon followed by services a noon in Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd. An additional viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be Friday in Lutheran Cemetery, Queens, NY.
