Kathleen Marie Moult

Kathy Moult, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Star athlete and long-time teacher in Berks County.

Kathleen Marie Moult (Jameson), age 67, passed away peacefully in her home on July 10th surrounded by the warmth and comfort of her family after enduring a long, brave battle with cancer. Kathy was born in Long Island, NY in 1954 to her loving and devoted parents, Richard and Ruth Jameson, the third of their six children. As a child, Kathy moved across several states with her family due to her father's career in the automobile industry before settling in Pennsylvania.

Kathy excelled in both academics and athletics during her youth. Her high school career was capped by leading her team to the 1972 NJ Parochial High School Basketball State Championship at Paramus Catholic under legendary coach Dr. Rose Battaglia. Standing at 6'0" tall, Kathy averaged a remarkable 30 points and 20 rebounds per game; for which she was featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd". From 1972-1976 she went on to star at Ursinus College and was the President of her senior class. At Ursinus, she discovered the two loves of her life, mathematics and her future husband, John.

During her summer breaks from college, Kathy drove a Mister Softee Ice Cream Truck which prepared her well for her future of delighting children and families with great conversation and treats. After college, Kathy became a teacher and rose to become the head of the Mathematics Department at Holy Name High School (now Berks Catholic) and taught there through June 2021, never once letting her cancer get the best of her. She was also an adjunct professor at Reading Area Community College and Penn State Berks and Harrisburg campuses for many years. Kathy's personality and gift for teaching touched a myriad of students over the past four decades, frequently touted by many as "the best teacher they've ever had" and whose Pi Day celebrations the entire community cherished. Prior to the age of "Zoom", Kathy educated students across PA via her popular "Homework Help" live television series on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) where students phoned in their challenging math problems and Kathy solved them on the spot. She was never stumped! Continuing her love of learning, Kathy went back to receive her Master's Degree in Mathematics from DeSales University in 2013.

Kathy's love of sports never relented and she passed that love along to her children and grandchildren. When she wasn't coaching her kids, she could always be found cheering them on from the stands (and questioning the calls of the referees), never once missing a game. Her support was not in vain, as all five of her children went on to play high school varsity basketball and three went on to become Division 1 collegiate athletes. Kathy coached a number of sports at the youth and high school level, including two 1983 state high jumping champions at Penncrest High School. Kathy also supported her many nieces and nephews at their games, plays or performances, often driving hours to be in the crowd for opening nights, playoffs or championship runs.

Kathy and John were married for 45 blissful years and were the proud parents of 5 wonderful and gifted children: JJ (Andrea), Andy (Stacie), Greg, Liz Gillette (Brandon) and Sarah (Darren). Kathy was further blessed with the "loves of her life" – her 8 incredible grandchildren: Meredith, Talan, Nolan, Kniele, Bailey, Brielle, Chase and Brooks. Kathy will be dearly missed by her four brothers Larry, Rick, Peter, and Paul and her sister Sally, as well as her cherished "outlaws": Jeannie, Linda, Barbara, Tami, Andy, Kathy & Jim. Scores of nieces and nephews as well as cousins, aunts, and uncles will console themselves with their warm memories of "Aunt Kathy". A private Celebration of Life will be held for Kathy in the coming weeks, at her request.

In lieu of flowers, Kathy's family has created the Berks Catholic High School "Kathy Moult- Math is Fun!" scholarship, awarded annually to a local 8th grade student who excels in mathematics and has limited financial resources. Checks can be made out to Berks Catholic High School (955 E. Wyomissing Boulevard Reading, PA 19611) and include "Kathy Moult" in the memo line or donations can be made online through the Berks Catholic Website https://www.berkscatholic.org/domain/128 and include "Kathy Moult" in the notes section.
