Karl Weida Schmidt, 92 formerly of North Wales, Montgomery County, PA for 22 years and formerly of Allentown for 36 years died January 7, 2005 at 4:10 AM in Reading Hospital where he had been since Monday. He was taken there from Phoebe Berks Village, where he had resided for the past 3 and a half years.
His wife Elizabeth Rosenberger (Becker) Schmidt died February 9, 1997.
Born in Mason City, Iowa he was the son of the late Nelson Sweitzer and Carol Opal (Weida) Schmidt.
He was a graduate of the former Schwenksville High School in 1930. He also attended Ursinus College, Collegeville and Penn State University, State College.
Schmidt was an Industrial Engineer for 20 years employed by Brewster Aircraft, Philadelphia, Mack Truck, Allentown and Minneapolis Honeywell, Philadelphia. He then returned to Mack Truck in 1961 as was employed there in inside sales until his retirement in 1975.
He was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, Allentown.
Schmidt was a lifetime member and 32nd degree Mason of R.W. Grand Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania Lodge #310, Collegeville. He was a lifetime member of of Ancient accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Valley of Allentown. Schmidt was a charter member and past President of A.A.R.P., Allentown Chapter #3331 where he also was chairman of the food bank for many years.
While living in North Wales he was both a member of Boro Council and a member of church council for St. Peter's Lutheran Church each for 10 years respectively.
Schmidt is survived by 2 sons John K. Schmidt, Portland, TX and James E. Schmidt, Shillington. He is also survived by one daughter Barbara S. (Schmidt) Schlosser, Shillington. There also 4 grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren surviving him.
Memorial Services will be held Wednesday at 1 PM in Hope United Church of Christ 1031 Flexer Avenue Allentown, PA 18103, additional services will be held Wednesday at 7 PM in Phoebe Berks Chapel, Wernersville. Private burial will be in Schwenksville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hope United Church of Christ at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, PA is in charge of arrangements.
