Karl E. Goetz, 74, of Spring Township, died January 1, 2012 at 4:15 pm in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Twila Gail (Venkler) Goetz, whom he married August 18, 1962. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August.

Born in West Reading, PA on March 12, 1937, he was a son of the late Eugene and Emma M. (Sonwald) Goetz.

He was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church.

Karl was a 1955 graduate of Wilson High School were he was president of student council and played varsity Football, Basketball and Baseball.

While playing football he recovered a fumble and returned it 93 yards for a touchdown; earning himself a spot in the Wilson record books.

He also attended Penn State University.

Karl was a member of the West Lawn Owls.

He was an Army Veteran.

Karl was employed 30 years as a salesman with Progress Electric, Wyomissing, before retiring in 2002.

He is also survived by two children: Kim L. (Goetz), wife of Michael J. Paolini and Scott E., husband of Christine H. (Hollis) Goetz, all of Spring Township.

Other survivors include four grandchildren: Zane A. Paolini, Jake A. Paolini, Benjamin A. Goetz and Emma K. Goetz.

He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Goetz.

Memorial Services will be held Friday at 4:30 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A visitation will be held Friday from 3:30 pm until time of services in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township.
