Karl Bachman, 87, of Exeter Township, died July 20, 2007 at 2:00 am in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been a patient since July 6th.
He was the husband of Evelyn Virginia (Finch) Bachman, whom he married October 18, 1947.
Born July 25, 1919 in Reading, he was a son of the late Otto and Anna (Baier) Bachman.
He was a 1937 graduate of Reading High School, where he was a star athlete in Baseball, Basketball and Football where he was the Captain.
Karl was a Army Veteran of WWII and was a career military man, serving 30 years, before retiring from the Army as a Captain in 1967.
He was later employed 15 years as a guard with Carpenter Technology, Reading, retiring in 1985.
Karl was a member of the American Legion Post #626, Birdsboro.
He was an avid golfer who loved to play at Green Hills Golf Club.
Karl was a wonderful father to his three children, Sandra L. Tucker of Spring Township, Deborah J. wife of Christy L. Elliott of Spring Township and Karl Mike husband of Laurie M. (McCahan) Bachman of Villinova, Delaware County.
He is also survived by a sister, Gloria (Bachman) wife of Milton Tylor, of Cumru Township.
Karl was also a devoted grandfather to his seven grandchildren, Bryn, Ross, John, Mark, Katie, Graham and Meghan and his two great grandchildren, Caroline and Whitney.
Memorial Services will be held Monday at 1:00 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, with the Rev. Raymond S. Sensenig officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Olivet's Boy & Girl Club, 1161 Pershing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611.
