Kanaan Salloum

Kanaan Salloum, 88, formerly of Westwood Road, Colony Park, died Nov. 16 at 12:47 a.m. in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Laureldale, where he had resided since April 2001.

His wife, Salwa (Salloum) Salloum, died in August 1983.

Born in Salaata, Lebanon, he was a son of the late Rizkallah and Nabiha (Kamel) Salloum.

Salloum had been mayor of Salaata, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

Salloum is survived by a son, George K., Wyomissing, and two daughters, Therese K. (Salloum) Chelala, Lakewood, Ohio, and May K. (Salloum) Abboud, Rocky River, Ohio.

Other survivors include a brother, Jamil R., Beirut, Lebanon, and two sisters, Adla (Salloum) Taleb, Salaata, and Therese Salloum, Beirut.

There are also 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church. Burial will be in Salaata Cemetery in Lebanon. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
