June D. (Harter) Moore, 96, formerly of Leesport, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 31, 2018, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Born June 29, 1922, in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Raymond D. and Edna H. (Evans) Harter. She was married for 55 wonderful years to John H. Moore, who passed in 2001.
June was a 1941 graduate of West Reading High School, and worked for Narrow Fabrics, West Reading, for 14 years before working as a clerk in the Reading Hospital Engineering office. She was very active in her community, serving as Past President of the West Reading Fireman's Auxiliary, and District Deputy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Elizabeth Herr #131. She also organized the "Mrs. America" Pageant during the West Reading Bicentennial Celebration.
A kind and gentle mother, June loved her family first and foremost, instilling in her children a hard work-ethic. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and playing pinochle with her friends and family. She and John traveled to Florida frequently in their later years, and lived for a year in Ireland.
June is survived by her daughters: Joan, wife of George Fredericks, Schnecksville; and Eileen, wife of Donald Grill, Bradenton, Fla. She is also survived by five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren, all of whom will greatly miss their very special grandmother.
In addition to her husband, June was predeceased by a sister Helen Dundore, a brother Daniel Harter, and a grandson, Johnathan.
A celebration of June's long life well-lived will be held at 11:00am, Friday, January 4, 2019, at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, with burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10:00am-11:00am at the funeral home.
