Judith Ann Szajna

Judith Ann (Bohanak) Szajna, 72, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, of Spring Township, died December 12, 2007 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

She was the wife of Paul Joseph Szajna, whom she married August 20, 1955.

Born in Reading, PA on August 8, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Bohanak and Mary Florence (Zialkowski) Bohanak Zielinski.

She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

Judy was a 1953 graduate of Reading High School.

She was employed from 1953 to 1962 with American Bank and Trust Company as an executive secretary to the Senior Vice President and Trust Officer; from 1971 to 1975 she was with Penn State University, Berks Campus as a secretary to the building coordinator, assistant to Dean of Student Affairs and assistant to the professor of physical education.

Judy was than employed from 1976 to 1977 with G.H. Delp Corporation, Temple as an executive secretary to the president, assistant managers and treasurer and than with Gilbert/Commonwealth in the same capacity, working with the Vice President of the Energy division from 1977 to 1979 and than with the manager of industrial design department from 1979 to 1985.

She was later employed from 1985 to 1999 was an executive secretary with CNA Insurance, Reading, working with the personnel manager and human resources director.

Judy was last employed for two years with Encompass Insurance, Reading as an executive secretary to the chief underwriting director and five managers, before retiring in 2001.

She was a member of the Thursday Morning Womens Bible Group at St. Ignatius, the GPU Seniors Group and also volunteered in the laboratory at the Doctors Office Building in the Reading Hospital.

Judy was an active member with the Alvernia Seniors College Clubs, which included the Book Review Club, Red Hat Society Chapter 39743 Scarlet Scholars and the Lunch-Brunch Discussion Club.

She is also survived by two daughters, Suzanne S. (Szajna) wife of Samuel A. Marrella Sr and Dianne Lynn (Szajna) widow of Gregory S. Volutza, all of Spring Township.

There are also three grandchildren, Ashleigh N. Marrella, Samuel A. Marrella Jr. and Erin N. Volutza.

Other survivors include a brother, Wilson P. husband of Stacey A. (Holly) Bohanak of Eagleville, Montgomery County and a niece, Christine H. Bohanak of Newtown Square.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. Ignatius R.C. Church, Whitfield. A viewing will be held Monday 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Edward J.
