Judith L. Krieger, 82, formerly of Reading and Phoebe Berks Village, died peacefully 12/31/2021 in the Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, Wernersville. The family is forever grateful for the wonderful staff at Phoebe Berks and the excellent care Judith received there over the years.
She was the wife of The Rev. Canon Walter L. Krieger, former rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Reading.
Born in Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Eugene W. and Ruth L. (Spicer) Friel.
She was a 1957 graduate of Towson High School, Towson, MD, and a 1961 graduate of Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, where she received a bachelor's degree in English. She also attended the Maryland Institute of the Arts, Baltimore, MD.
Judith taught English in the Baltimore Schools, Upper Darby High School, Cinnaminson High School, and the University of Ohio, and taught ESL classes at the College of Wooster, Wooster, OH. She also taught art at the Wooster Community Art Center, and in her private art studio in Reading, PA. She taught many classes at the Wyomissing Institute of Fine Arts, Wyomissing, PA, and several at at the Baum School of Art in Allentown, PA. She taught business writing classes at the Reading Area Community College. She led painting workshops in Europe and several Mid-Atlantic and New England states over a period of 20 years. An accomplished painter, she exhibited her works in Reading and the Lehigh Valley, as well as Cape May, NJ and Philadelphia. Together, with her husband Walter, they lead workshops and retreats in spirituality and art.
For several years, she worked with children in the Reading School District, helping paint murals in schools and public spaces including 13th & Union Elementary School and the Reading Hospital.
Judith was a member of the Berks Art Alliance, Berks Art Council, and a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society.
Judith attended Christ Episcopal Church, Reading, for many years, and was most recently a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Sinking Spring.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Rachel S. (Krieger) Eck and husband Andrew P. Eck of Topton, and her son Joel N. and wife Lorise (Chow) Krieger of Bethlehem. One granddaughter, Sophia Chow Krieger, also survives her.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Phoebe Berks Chapel, 1 Reading Dr, Wernersville, PA 19565 and all will be welcome. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Alban's Episcopal Church. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
