Josephine "Josie" W. Hartman, 75 of Muhlenberg Township, died August 4 at 9:05 PM in Reading Hospital where she had been since August 1.

She was the wife of Edward G. Hartman.

Born in Topton, she was the daughter of the late John and Edna (Witwer) Bond.

She was a graduate of Reading High School in 1948.

Hartman was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church, where she served on the property committee and had been a Sunday School Teacher in preschool class for more than 40 years. She also served on the personnel/policy committee and was a charter member of "Women of Alsace" at the church.

She served many times as first Vice President, was program chair and was a member of the Women's Club of Muhlenberg for 49 years.

Hartman was a member of the Women's Committee of the Berks County Farm Bureau for more than 20 years. She was also a member of the Society for the Preservation of the Gruber Wagon Works, the Berks County Farmland Preservation Task Force and the Muhlenberg Area Council of Republican Women.

In addition to her husband she is survived by 5 sons, Edward, Spring Township, David, Penn Township, Christopher, Bern Township, Paul, Oley Township and Timothy, Manassas, VA.

There are also 5 brothers, Lewis Bond, Sunbury, John Bond, Penn Township, Richard Bond, Bern Township, James Bond, Colorado Springs, CO and Harold Bond, Bern Township. Other survivors include 3 sisters, Betty (Bond) Kalbach, West Reading, PA, Catharine (Bond) Weller, Reading and Nancy (Bond) Killian, Wyomissing. There are also 9 grandchildren.

Hartman was predeceased by 3 brothers, Robert Bond, Donald Bond, and George Bond.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 AM in Alsace Lutheran Church 2201 Kutztown Road Reading, PA 19605. Interment in Alsace Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Contributions may be made to the Alsace Lutheran Church Endowment Fund at the above address.
