Joseph J. York

Joseph J. York, Jr., 91, of West Reading, died May 25, 2010 in Mifflin Center.

He was the husband of Catherine M. (O'Connell) York.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph J., Sr. and Catherine A. (Donahue) York.

He was a graduate of St. Ann's High School, Lansford and a 1940 graduate of Villanova University.

Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII.

He was employed by Traveler's Insurance Company, Reading as a claims manager, retiring in 1985.

Joseph was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading, where he served as a cantor, lector and in the choir .

He was also a member of the Zoning Board and Water Authority for the Borough of West Reading.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Joseph J., III, husband of Tracey York, Muhlenberg Township, Matthew M., husband of Tracey York, Bernville, Cathy, widow of Dennis Reber, Spring Township and Mary Ellen, widow of Army Colonel Richard Mulhern, Fairfax, VA.

He is also survived by his brother, Paul York, Fayettville, PA and his sister, Mary Theresa Lynch, Raleigh, N.C., and 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart R. C. Church. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum.
