Joseph V. Kurpiewski, 76, of Exeter Township, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at the Southeastern Veterans Center in Spring City, where he had been a patient surrounded by compassionate care.

Joseph was the devoted and loving husband of JoAnn (DiPaolo) Kurpiewski, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage, partnership, and unwavering love.

Born in Reading, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph A. and Helen A. (Kochanowski) Kurpiewski. He was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1967, and Penn State University, carrying lifelong pride in both institutions.

Joseph honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life marked by courage, sacrifice, and deep patriotism.

A man of strong faith and loyalty, Joseph was a longtime member of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church in Reading and a dedicated Central Catholic Booster, always supporting the community and institutions he loved.

He enjoyed his Wednesday evenings at the fire company with his good friend Dennis and his lunches with his lifelong friends from his elementary school days at St. Mary’s.

Professionally, Joseph worked as a mechanical engineer for General Battery, Western Electric, and Lucent Technologies, where he was respected for his knowledge, dedication, and work ethic. He was granted a patent in 1982 for his innovative work with plastic welding.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, Neil, husband of Catherine Kurpiewski, of Princeton, NJ, and Erin Kurpiewski of Manhattan, NY; his brothers, Michael Kurpiewski, Christopher Kurpiewski, and Philip Kurpiewski; and his cherished grandchildren, Helen Kurpiewski and Jack Kurpiewski, who brought him immense joy and pride.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday April 17, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, PA 19606. Friends may call Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Southeastern Veterans Center for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they showed Joseph during his stay.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Southeastern Veterans Center Welfare Fund, 1 Veterans Dr, Spring City, PA 19475. Please note “Welfare Fund - 1CLC” to have the donation directed to their Memory Care Unit.
