Joseph T. Stricek, 89, of Wyomissing, went to Eternal rest on December 29, 2014, in Manor Care, Sinking Spring.
Joseph was born in Curwensville, PA to Frank and Hedviga (Kubista) Stricek on March 10, 1925. After completing his service in the Air Force he attended Gannon College in Erie, PA and graduated in 1953.
On June 26, 1954 he married Virginia (Wolf) Stricek in St. Timothy's Catholic Church. They lived in Erie. After several years they moved with their two sons Arthur and Thomas to Wyomissing where Joe worked for the former Textile Machine Works. He also worked for the Milk Marketing Board in Harrisburg as an auditor and retired in 1991.
Joe was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Reading. He played for the original Guitar Group along with some Sacred Heart children including his son Art. Joe was also a member of the Sacred Heart Choir, Sacred Heart Boy Scouts Troop # 445, Knights of Columbus 793 and Pius IX 4th degree. He was a longtime member of the Reading Liederkranz and played in the Edelweiss Kapelle. He was also a lifetime member of the Robesonia Fire Company. Joe loved music and played a variety of instruments.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Wolf) Stricek; his son, Art and his wife Leslie( Burkart) Stricek and his beloved grandson, Robert (Bobby to him) Stricek a student at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He is also survived by his sister, Johanna and brother, John Stricek; his Godchild, Carolyn Irwin; many nieces and nephews, his sister-in-law, Annaliese Novak; nephew, Jason Novak; niece, Virginia Fabian and her sons, Paul and Jesus.
He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Joseph Stricek; brothers, Steven, Francis and Henry and sisters, Mary, Helen, Elizabeth, Verna, Mildred and Ann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in Edward J.
