Joseph A. Swoboda, 99, of Holland Square, West Reading, died Oct. 12 at 7:17 p.m. in the emergency care unit at Reading Hospital.
He was the husband of Sylvia C. (Manno) Swoboda.
Born in Vienna, Austria, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Stephanna (Papousek) Swoboda.
Swoboda was employed for 50 years as a knitter by Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing, until 1968 and was last employed for 27 years as a stock clerk by Delta Hosiery Co., Reading, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading, where he was scoutmaster for 20 years, a choir member and choirmaster for 20 years.
Swoboda was a fourth-degree knight and financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus, Council 793, Reading.
He is also survived by two daughters, Sylvia M. (Swoboda) Oldham, Exeter Township, and Rose M. (Swoboda) Hobbs, Leesport.
Other survivors include a sister, Adelaide (Swoboda) Schwartz, Reading; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Entombment will be private in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
