Joseph Charles Michalsky, 87, of Muhlenberg Township died December 10, 2012 in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township.
He is survived by his loving wife Leona Mary (Schuck) Michalsky, whom he married June 23, 1951.
Born in Shenandoah, PA on October 18, 1925, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Andresh) Michalski.
He was a 1943 graduate of JW Cooper High School of Shenandoah.
Joseph was an Army Air Force Veteran of WWII and Korea. His unit, the 908th Division was the first unit called back into service for the Korean Conflict.
His passion was Aviation. He also enjoyed all of his flying time and was a private pilot.
Joseph also loved photography and even had his own darkroom.
He enjoyed working with all kinds of woodcraft and was a model builder.
He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.
Joseph worked a draftsman his whole life and really enjoyed it; working with Glenn L. Martin Company, Middle River, Maryland for 12 years and then another 21 years with General Electric, King of Prussia.
He was contracted by the planning council of Baltimore, Maryland to build a 1/50th scale model of the Charles Center of Downtown Baltimore.
Joseph was a lifetime VFW member; was a member of the Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum, Maryland; a member of the Air Force Museum Foundation, Inc. and a 12 year member of the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum.
He is also survived by two sons: Robert J., husband of Lori A. (Bankes) Michalsky of Chester Springs, Chester County and Joseph L., husband of Cathy L. (O'Bryant) Michalsky of Brecknock Township.
Other survivors include three siblings: Sister Marilita Michalski at Alvernia University; Joanne (Michalsky), widow of John Bernhart of Reading and John, husband of Evelyn (Pawling)Michalski of Spring Township.
There are also four grandchildren: Eric R., Jill M., Jamie L. and Jacob J. Michalsky.
Joseph was also awaiting the birth of his fifth grandchild.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Raymond Charles Michalsky, who died April 25, 2000.
Joseph was also predeceased by five siblings: Theresa (Michalski)Fiorini, Rosemary (Michalsky)Weikel, Leon Michalsky, Marie (Michalski)Greenawald and Delores Nancy (Michalsky) Magargal.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Road Reading, PA 19605. A viewing will be held in Church Thursday from 9:00 am until time of Mass. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church at the above address.
