Joseph N. Medaglia, 92, of Muhlenberg Township, passed away October 30, 2014 in Kindred Transitional Care.
He was the loving companion of the late Helen M. Sheppo.
Born September 1, 1922 in Reading, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Virginia (Damato) Medaglia.
He worked for Erhlich Pest Control for over 20 years, retiring in 1987 as a Master Bugologist. After retirement he worked part time for J.C. Penny Company at the Fairgrounds Square Mall until 2002.
Joseph was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII in the European Theater with the 44th Combat Engineers. He was captured in the December 1944 Battle of the Bulge and was liberated in May 1945.
He was a member of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Reading.
Joseph played in various baseball leagues during the 1940's and 1950's, and also enjoyed golf. Later in life he took to gardening and home yard landscaping.
He is survived by his loving sister, Angelina, widow of George Endy; and his sisters-in-law: Eleanor (Devera) Medaglia and Eleanor (Camilli) Medaglia. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as a few great-great nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his sisters: Dolly Valeriano, Millie Pandolfi, Rose Santarelli, Kathryn Orlando, Mary Agatone, and Anna Bernardo; and brothers: John Medaglia, Daniel Medaglia, Michael Medaglia, and LeRoy Medaglia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary R.C. Church, 237 Franklin St, Reading. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
