Joseph Walter Gromis

Joseph Walter Gromis, 57, of Reading, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 in the Reading Hospital.

Born on August 6, 1957, in West Reading, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Mary M. (Shomper) Gromis.

Joe's gentle and charismatic nature drew people into his world and helped them understand Down Syndrome as just a circumstance of his life, not a diagnosis of his abilities.

He worked at Threshold Rehabilitation Services and Prospectus Berco and looked forward to going to work every day.

Joe was a resident of Dayspring Homes, where he was lovingly cared for by Linda Digiacomo, Sonya Yob and the rest of the wonderful staff.

He was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church, Muhlenberg Township.

Joe is survived by his sister Gail R. (Gromis), wife of P. David Weyandt of Laureldale and his niece Jennifer D. (Weyandt), wife of Robert O'Keefe of Muhlenberg Township.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Special Olympics Pennsylvania, in memory of Joseph Gromis, 2570 Blvd of the Generals, Ste 124, Norristown, PA 19403.
