Joseph Elbert Taylor, 84 of Leesport and formerly of Doylestown died suddenly August 13, 2008 at 6:15 p.m. in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the husband of Maureen Teresa (Hughes) Taylor, whom he married June 8, 1952.
Born August 3, 1924 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Elbert Horace and Theresa (Grosso) Taylor.
Joseph was a graduate of Abington High School in 1942, and later Temple University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1950 and a Master's Degree in 1953. He also attended Moore School of Engineering and the University of Pennsylvania.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1942 until 1946.
Joseph was a math teacher for several years before being employed with Honeywell and Unisys Corporation, Blue Bell, in Computer Systems, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Muhlenberg Township.
Joseph was also a member of the American Legion and a past treasurer of both the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Guardian Angels Holy Name Society.
He was very active in coaching with the Doylestown Athletic Association and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel CYO.
Also surviving are four sons, Stephen J. Taylor of Leesport; James P., husband of Kristina R. (Westermark) Taylor of Chester Springs, PA; John D., husband of Janet Leigh (Bachman) Taylor of Chalfont, PA and Kevin M., husband of Cynthia L. (Ogryzek) Taylor of Perkasie, PA and a daughter Teresa M. Dreyer of Perkasie, PA.
There are eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter also surviving.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the Mass in the Church. Burial will be in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Warrington Township, Bucks County.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605 and/or Juvenile Diabetes Research, 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005.
