Joseph E. Dolan

Joseph Edward Dolan, 73, died June 14, 2012 in his Exeter Township residence.

He was the husband of Janet Marie (Wagner) Dolan, whom he married December 29, 1962.

Born in Reading, PA on May 5, 1939, he was a son of the late Thomas Michael Dolan Sr. and Elizabeth Gertrude (Kortenhorn) Dolan.

He was a 1957 graduate of Central Catholic High School and graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Villanova University in 1962.

Joe founded Dolan Construction, Inc., Reading in 1977 and served as its president from that time until 2007 and continued to work until December, 2011.

He was a member of St. Catharine R.C.C., Exeter Township.

Joe was a past president of the Reading Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers and served on the board of directors for 10 years.

He also served as president and director of the Home Builders Association of Berks County and on the State and National Boards.

Joe was a former chairman of the board of directors for the Borneman Health Corporation in Reading and a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading as well as the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce.

He is also survived by six children: Peter J., husband of Kristin L. (Light) Dolan of Exeter Township; Monica A. (Dolan), wife of Stephen J. Rush of Cumru Township; Maureen S. Dolan, residing with Karen A. McGavin in Alsace Township; Margaret A. (Dolan), wife of Hemant Virkar of Darnestown, Maryland; James P., husband of Deidre (Bennett) Dolan of Renton, Washington and Patrick J., husband of Kimberly A. (Green) Dolan of Reading.

There are also ten grandchildren: Colleen, Ryan, Emily, Michael, Claire, Alisa, Sophia, Olivia, Mairéad and Liam.

Other survivors include RoseMarie A. (Gidaro) Dolan (mother of Ryan and Michael) of Princeton Junction, New Jersey and two sisters: Margaret E. (Dolan), wife of Donald Becker of Sacramento, California and Elizabeth M. (Dolan), wife of Edward J. Kowalski of Shillington.

He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas M. Dolan, Jr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 18th at 7:00 pm in St. Catharine of Siena R.C. Church, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Reading, PA 19606. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 4:30 - 6:30 pm in the Church. Entombment will be private in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church at 2427 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606.
