Joseph M. Cammarano Sr., retired Reading businessman, died Jan. 3 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Dec. 18.
Cammarano, 79, Wyomissing Hills, was the husband of Mary T. (Burns) Cammarano.
He was the co-owner of BGR Insurance Co., Reading, from 1963 until his retirement in 1996. Cammarano was also the co-owner of Donny's Sandwich Shops, Reading.
Born in Hazleton, Luzerne County, he was a son of the late Dominic and Anna (DiScianna) Cammarano.
Cammarano was a 1945 graduate of Reading High School.
He was a past president of the Central Catholic High School Boosters.
Cammarano was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Reading, where he was a lector and eucharistic minister and church bazaar chairman.
He is also survived by two daughters, Dolores J. (Cammarano) Turley, Wyomissing, and Mary J. (Cammarano) Farrelly, Sinking Spring; and six sons: Michael J., Sinking Spring; Mauro D., Dennis J. and Dominick J., all of Wyomissing; and Joseph M. Jr., and James A., both of Reading.
Other survivors include two brothers, Peter N., and Dominic J. Jr., both of Laureldale; and a sister, Anna (Cammarano) Tomasi, Exeter Township.
There are also 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale. Friends may call Wedsday 5-8 PM in Kuhn Funeral Home 739 Penn Ave. West Reading. Contributions may be made to St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church 1018 North 8th Street Reading, PA 19604. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
