Joseph C. Cunningham, 84, of Spring Township, passed away December 16, 2014 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the husband of Carol R. (Haughney) Cunningham, whom he married September 4, 1954 and just celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Born May 14, 1930 in Claysville, he was a son of the late J. Claire and Romaine (Whiteman) Cunningham.
He was a 1948 graduate of Claysville High School; a place always remaining close to his heart.
Joseph worked as an operating engineer for Local 542 for over 50 years, working on the Alaskan pipeline, retiring in 1996.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
Joseph was a member of the Williamson Masonic Lodge 307, Womelsdorf; Scottish Rite, Reading; Tall Cedars Forest 32; and was a member and the former president of the Rajah Gun Club for several years.
He was a hunter and enjoyed many good years hunting, in Claysville, with his wife, his nephews, his hunting buddies, and his two dogs: Jack and Jill.
Joseph was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, Whitfield.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters: Mary Jo, wife of William Reynolds, Gautier, MI; Frances, wife of Derrick Boland, Ft. Orange, FL; Deborah, wife of Mac DuValle, Dallas, TX; and Ann Cunningham, Fairbanks, AK. Also surviving are his siblings: George, husband of Betty Cunningham, Savannah, GA; Betty McAdoo, Claysville; Susan, wife of Kenneth Boone, Washington, PA; and Janet, wife of Richard Burig, West Alexander and several nieces and nephews. Seven grandchildren: William, Samantha, Jamaica, Michael, Zachary, Adrianne, and Evan and three great-grandchildren: Casey, Drew, and Jenay also survive him.
Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Donald Cunningham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2810 St. Albans Dr., Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Viewings will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Gethsemane Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Loyola R.C.
