Joseph Theodore Buzalewski, 86 of Spring Township, died January 19, 2010 in Reading Hospital.
He was the loving husband of Irene M. (Zmroczek) Buzalewski.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Ignacy and Julia (Blizniak) Buzalewski.
Joseph was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps serving during WWII, during which he earned the Bronze Star. He enjoyed a 20-year career in the Merchant Marines as a Bosun's Mate. Following his career at sea, he was employed for many years by I. Losch, Inc., Reading.
Joseph was a member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Robesonia.
He was a member of the Pike Township Sportsman Association and the Local # 1269 Painters Union were he served as secretary.
Joseph enjoyed cooking, fishing, telling stories of his many adventures and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved his little dog Bebe.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Elaine M. (Buzalewski) DePetris, Baltimore MD; Robert J., husband of Catherine (Underwood) Buzalewski, South Heidelberg Township; Thomas J., husband of Melody C. (Catlett) Buzalewski, Anderson SC and Lisa A. (Buzalewski), wife of Robert B. Bartha, York.
He is also survived by his sister, Sophie (Buzalewski) Sendecki, Douglassville and five grandchildren, Jennifer, Luke, Lauren, Matthew and Theodora.
He is predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum.
